Alabama Beaches Win National Award
Because of beach renourishment efforts following the destruction caused by Hurricane Ivan, the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA) recently named the beaches in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach as being among the top restored beaches in the country for 2006. The award, which was established to build appreciation for restored beaches, is based on criteria including the performance of the restoration project (short- and long-termed) and the ecological and economic success of the project.
